MechWarrior 4 + Expansions to be released for free

I remember reading the original article, got excited, then was disappointing when no news about it came out of the pipeline. Now it is happening and I am excited again.

Who remembers epic times in MechWarrior? I do. I fsking loved that game.

We should get some games going when it is released.

It's been announced that they've got the go-ahead.

Who knows how much longer it will take.


Anyway, I never played it but it looks enjoyable.

Best thing evar was those pods they had at intensity in that eary room where you played against ppl in other pods and you had joysticks and throttles and everything, that was mad fun, why'd they get rid of them

Anyone know what im talking about or did you miss out

I loved the original games!

I used to waste hours and hours of my pre-school days playing old games like Mech Warrior 2.

Damn, I remember playing that. I didn't rtfm then and kept wondering why my Nova Cat would droop after I spammed my Clan ER Heavy Lasers and Clan PPCs.

Its been released. I am downloading as we speak. Should see if we can get some games going, should be epic.

Here is the main mektek install file, its only Mech 4 Mercenaries atm, but the original and expansions should be released eventually:

Then you need to download the Mektek install utility to install the thing properly: http://mtxgear.mektek.net/mtx/beta/SetupMTX1.0.3.5.exe

Then open the mtx file inside the Mektek installer once its installed.

However, it still seems that some are still playing. So, use this site as your go to for all mods, tutorials, etc.

K, a quick guide to how to patch and run:
1. Ideally you should have original discs if you want to do it this way.
2. Install to native directory.
3. Download NBT-CD Packages 1+2.
4. Install them in the obvious order of cd1 then 2. Ideally running in this fashion

5. Now download and install MekPak 3 (English) to update.
6. Then incrementally patch up the rest in this order MekPak 3.0.1 (English), MekPak 3.0.2 (English), MekPak 3.0.2a (English), MekPak 3.0.2b (English).
7. At this present point in time, I have not been able to devise a method of working with 3.1hd, but be assured I'm tearing my hair out right now trying to figure it out.
8. Almost finished now guys, download and install NBT-HC Client(Don't get the beta only the updater); now depending on your system and the installation process, extra packages may need to be activated via the Client, such as the MekMatch regedit and grid/map fixes.

Viola! You should now have a working copy of one of the greatest games around! I look forward to trouncing your corpses on the field of honourable battle.

Athel while that's a nice guide in all you don't seem to know about the Mechwarrior 4 free release, it comes with MekPak3.1 already installed, no need for your giant patch install fest.

Blabil, you didn't read my post then...

I just wrote it for people, like myself, that prefer to work from our store bought copies.

The bloody updater doesn't work. It keeps telling me to check that I've dumped it in the correct directory.

Did you install it inside the Mektek installer directory, or in a seperate folder?

Just so you know, I put it within the Mektek installer. Worked fine for me.

I dumped it in the Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries directory, since that was what they said in the instructions.

Sorry my post above was worded wrong. I assume that you have the mtx download of the game? If so you just open MTX, click file -> open .mtx, then select the file.

Once it is ready you can click install down the bottom right hand corner for the game. Make sure you ask it to install into the MTX directory instead of its own one. Once that is done, and you can select the game in the "Installed Games" window, click the game and select "Check for updates".

Should work fine.

Mine's all downloaded and patched.

Hopefully NBT will get their act together to combat this, or at least figure out a patch/update that will work with this latest travesty. Until then, looks like we'll be forced to play this lesser mod. Oh well, I'll still beat you all

No shit. I've been practicing my jump shooting and leg sniping though, so I'll probably strip some armour off your 'mech at the least.
