Cossacks: Back to War

So ACC and I were talking about Cossacks, the greatest RTS to ever exist.

Anyone else played it?

Think AoE but with a population limit of 8000 (as opposed to 200) and set in the 17th/18th centuries.

Also, quite a lot more realistic in terms of reload speeds, etc. etc.

In short: It's epic, and the graphics have aged quite well.


So, who's up for a game? LAN over Hamachi I guess would be easiest.


EDIT: ACC, Andy and I have it so far.
Since we're playing over Hamachi you can pirate it if you have no morals. It's only 300mb or so.
I own 3 copies of the game so I guess that makes up for it from a karma point of view, specifically because it's so damn hard to find.

If you're using a nVidia 8000 or higher, or an equivelant ATI card, you'll probably need the following patch to make the game run:

If the game crashes at start-up, just delete the folder "video" (this just cuts out the intro, which causes some problems on new computers).

Like I said to waso on ts tonight, We need to see if anyone is interested n this game and have a try at getting a game going caz I use to play it online competitively and I got alot of good memories of it.. Loved it so much. (waso only ever played it singleplayer caz he wasn't ready back in those days to play competitively, something to do with a lack in confidence *OR BALLS!* might have been the problem.)

I should have it on again and working ready for tomorrow night.

3 so far, venset said he might to. so that makes a possible 4pl match.

I hope this works, caz its gonna be good.


OH and being an old game, specs are EASY AS. So don't worry bout them. Just gotta set it to compatibility with windows 95 and prey it works!

For those who don't know how to use Hamachi:

Go here:

You do NOT need to create an account as far as I can see.
The basic product is free, but if you do make an account you can get a 30-day trial of the full product (higher network capacity, etc. etc... not needed).

Install.

Run.

Follow the prompts, enter a user-name.

Now, to join my network (which I will leave running for the time being):
Click "Network"
"Join Existing Network"

Network Name: HTA-Network
Password: horseandsword

It should tell you it's connected, you'll see me and anyone else who has joined, you can leave messages etc, and the LAN is established.


If it asks for an IP address, it's:
5.82.142.155

I lovedd this game and I cant beleive how well it plays today.. I just had a 5min go in single player and OH MY its all coming back now! Cant wait, I prey that this hamachi multi shit works, ive never used it before.. and my modem dont like private servers .. Prey for zee best!

Just finished downloading this, getting this weird rainbow effect on the graphics which I'm googling for a fix for atm.

Edit: It seems the only way to fix it is to use ctrl+alt+del and close explorer.exe, then after your done playing go file->run explorer.exe to start it again.

I also wont be here from 7:30 to around 8-8:30 nz time.

I ran it in compatibility mode for XP SP3 and in 256 colors. That did the trick.

hamchi failed.. we couldnt use it to join.

We are having more success with gameranger tho not everyone is able to make it in.

I just downloaded it, I havent played a decent rts in about a year and I like Cossacks. Was a bit rusty but after a game or two I've got the jist of it. I'd love to have a game some time, even know I'd suck.

Yus we still need to attempt to do a 4 player game!

Gameranger is the easiest software to use so for that we have tried.

I was going to host a game using Gameranger yesterday, but got distracted, so maybe sometime during the week or next weekend perhaps.
