What are the rules guiding stats?

As in, what is stopping KoS from saying:

'yes our infantry, cavalry, and archers will all have 15 str 15 agil 15 ironflesh 15 powerstrike and 500 to all weapon skills'


What about weapons?

Can we say 'our infanry will have nordic huscarl shields, sarranid jarids, rhodok pike, arming swords, and nordic mail armour'

Well generally I'll be balancing it out between all the units they suggest.

KoS is mixed, so I have average stats and equipment for all of their troops.
Dojo is more lenient towards infantry, so they have weaker cavalry and archers compared to KoS, but better inf.
Etc.

I'll obviously be monitoring what people will suggest. I have made some changes to what people have suggested.

For instance:

Dojo Monk was going to have 7 shield skill. Why? So someone else on that team could drop a shield for them and they would be invincible. I have reduced that to the default unit shield skill.

The faction I'm probably looking forward to see in action is SPLHCW. They have two troops with the OPTION of buying a horse.

All I need at the moment is people to play test the current factions. If a faction seems to win all the time, I'll reduce it's unit's stats and equipment.

Honestly, the current stats are pretty silly. It would be far better for you to come up with a table for buying stats, skills, proficiencies and access to equipment. If a unit type has a weakness, it should not be trivial or easy to circumvent either.

KoS should have one ultra-amazing horse-archer class which is also bitching with melee and can use lances.

It'll make up for this by having very weak (non-existant) infantry and cavalry.

You could actually just use the current item prices as a measure of each items balancing worth. IIRC they're still just the singleplayer prices, so they're already fairly balanced, or at least slightly related to their quality.

Problem is though that that won't stop people from just taking the best of everything in exchange for having access to a wider range of low quality weapons.

The best way I could think of to do it was an unlock system.

Each faction was to be given three units and each unit is given 30 or so unlock points.

Clothing is given for free. You can then spend points to unlock a light armour, a medium armour and a heavy armour. Wether you wanted a mail haulbaurk or a lammelar vest for your medium armour would be up to the clan, although if you're worried about people only choosing the best protection to weight ratio you could just set all of the stats as identical within the three armour brackets.

Unlocking all of the Swadian one handed swords or Nord one handed axes would cost you 10 points, as you're essentially just purchasing upgrades to the same weapon. Weapons which aren't linear upgrades like glaives or morningstars could be given individual prices.

You'd preserve unique play styles and item choices between the factions, as they'd get to decide what exactly each of those units will be, but you'd make sure you wouldn't have a case where, for example, KoS infantry we're by nature inferior to Dojo's. It's okay for a class to be weaker at something than their opponents, but that should be balanced out by something they're superiour at. If they don't have access to heavy armour, they should have access to throwing weapons. If they don't have good shields they should have access to better polearms. Well, you get the general idea.

It's probably not a good idea to make one unit weak as compensation for another otherwise:

Downloaded it, some of the items are sort of wrong. Possibly because of new weapons in the new patches and stuff. (Dojo archers does not have crossbows, however in the current patch they do.)

I did this a while ago in plain M&B so if you want to do stats fine, just make him a really strong melee fighter with heaps of Str, ironflesh and Powerstrike with good prof in Crossbows.
