Victoria II
Doubt anybody here will be interested in this sort of game but you never know. Victoria II, the grand strategy game, is now released.
From Paradox Interactive (publishers of Warband, makers of such works of art as Europea Universalis and Hearts of Iron) it's set from 1836 - 1932 (give or take a few years, I don't remember precisely).
Basically, you take control of a nation and try to lead it to glory through industrialisation and strength of arms. Sounds simple - it's not.
There's a demo available from Gamersgate or Filefront which lets you play the USA in the war against Mexico over Texas, and through to the end of the Civil War.

Re: Victoria II
Shut up woman.
(Scorch, that is).
Been real busy this weekend, but managed to find half an hour or so to play and it seems pretty good so far. AI is surprisingly good and it looks feels and sounds very polished (unlike most PI games on release...)
